Check out this opinion article from the Wall Street Journal entitled "Why Hillsdale Beats Harvard".

What a proud day for Hillsdale!  Yay!

My new plant--Grace!

It may seem silly to name plants, but I like it.  I named this one Grace, in hopes that God bestows his grace on her and doesn't let me kill her like I have my other plants.  She was a favor at the bridal shower Dan's family threw for Kate!

Interview

Welllllll I had my first real grown-up job interview yesterday and I can't say it was a disaster but I can't say it was my most glorious moment ever, either.

I interviewed for the single potential admissions counselor spot available this year.  If nothing else, I was impeccably dressed and groomed, if I do say so myself.  I had to borrow a suit, shirt, and appropriate heels from others but they fit and worked and looked pretty good together.  I think I could get used to wearing a suit.  It's a real confidence-booster.

My interview was scheduled to be at 1:30 so of course I got there at 1:15 and waited.  Until 1:50.  I happen to know the person who was interviewing before me is an extremely impressive and well-qualified candidate so it was a little disheartening to see that he interviewed for nearly an hour, while mine took about 25 minutes.

Anyway, I went in the little room and sat up straight with my legs crossed at the ankles and succeeded in not fiddling with my hair or face or clothes and answered the nice man's questions with some stuttering over the words and several "uhs" or "ums" at the beginnings of my responses but overall I think I spoke pretty well, although I felt I was being rather rushed and cut off because the interviewer knew he was significantly behind schedule and already had another candidate waiting by the time I stepped into the little room.  So that was kind of frustrating.

Also, I hope it was not a terrible thing that I referred back to my senior year of high school to answer questions about my greatest accomplishment and a time I met a goal that I set for myself.  Those experiences were ones that were not already detailed on my resume and they were the first things that came to mind so that's what I said.

Oh well, if I don't get the job, at least I gained interview experience and all that.

Can not wait for spring break in three weeks!  I'm going to Florida for a week for nothing but the cost of food.  So maybe like $50 tops for a week of lying around on the beach.  So excited!!

Letters to Malcolm: Chiefly on Prayer

You wouldn't think that it would take that much time to whip out a bloody resume.  After all, it's not like you're learning any new information or even necessarily writing complete sentences.  It's just some blurbs about yourself.  Yet I've spent the last twenty minutes or so trying to figure out how to create a nice thick line so that my resume will look nice.  I'm looking at three different formats because I want mine to look like a combination of the three and I can't seem to figure out how to make any of mine look like any of those.

It has been such a busy week and just one of those weeks where I feel as though I've been working very hard and I'm exhausted but I still am not on top of things.  I feel more like I'm swimming in one of those germ-infested sticky ball pits at McDonald's than mastering my last semester of being a student.

Exhibit A:  It was my goal to finish this bloody resume over the weekend so the Career Center would have plenty of time to look it over before a very important day on Tuesday, but instead, my energy is waning at 11:10 pm on Thursday night.

Lord help me.  My confidence is shot.

Writer's block

What I need to be doing right now is working on a writing assignment, but instead the words of one of my favorite high school teachers are stuck in my head.  He was one of Paul's favorites too.  He was an enormous man who probably could have palmed my face and picked me up by it.  He played football for the KC chiefs and coached the high school football team, but also enjoyed Japanese anime and had published several short stories.  Needless to say, an interesting person, full of great one-liners.

Anyway, I took a creative writing class with him and he used to say, if you can't think of anything to write, just write, I don't know what to write, I don't know what to write, I don't know what to write over and over again and eventually you'll know what to write.

I'm about to resort to that.

I guess that's what made me think of that.

You should see how much my scar from my accident has improved.
